President’s Perspective
On behalf of the Junior League of Lake Charles, I welcome you to our website. For more than 80 years we have been busy making impactful changes in our community and training leaders. Originally created as the Junior Welfare League of Lake Charles in 1933, we joined the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) in 1967 and officially adopted the name, Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc.
We are a nonprofit organization of approximately 550 trained volunteers. As our mission states we are committed to:
- Promoting voluntarism
- Developing the potential of women
- Improving the community
The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. (JLLC) meets our mission by dedicating volunteers and money to projects that serve the community by strengthening and enriching families. For more information about our current community programs, click HERE. The JLLC’s efforts in the community resulted in the development of numerous nonprofit organizations currently serving the needs of our community. Some examples include:
- Arts Fest
- The Children’s Museum
- Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
- The Literacy Council
- Family & Youth Counseling Agency
- The Imperial Calcasieu Museum
- The Lake Charles Symphony
- Calcasieu Community Clinic
Our training opportunities have led to the development of many local and statewide leaders. Many of our members continue a leadership role in our community by serving on various boards, foundations, and even the state legislature. One of our Sustainers, Willie Landry Mount, became the first female Mayor of Lake Charles, and served many years as a State Senator. We are very proud of all of our JLLC members, especially in today’s culture where many of our members are also employed full-time.
Our website contains a wealth of information about who we are and how we serve and lead our community. Whether you are a current member, a prospective member, or someone who is simply interested in learning more about the Junior League of Lake Charles, I invite you to explore our new website. You may discover that you would like to join us as a member, sponsor, or advertise in Stabletalk, our quarterly publication. We also welcome donations to our Annual Fund, which is applied to our community programming. If you cannot find the information that you need, contact us at 337-436-4025 or headquarters@jllc.net.
Serving, Strengthening and Sustaining the Community since 1933, we are the Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc.!
