The Junior League of Lake Charles to Light it Up Blue on World Autism Day

Mar. 29, 2017 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. is teaming up with Autism Speaks to support the organization’s annual Light It Up Blue Autism Awareness Day campaign. On Apr. 2, 2017, thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe will unite for Light it Up Blue by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism.

The Junior League of Lake Charles Appoints 2017-2018 Board of Directors and Management Team

Mar. 14, 2017 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc., a leading non-profit organization serving the Lake Charles community and SWLA area for more than 80 years, has appointed the 2017-2018 Board of Directors and Management Team. The League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

The Junior League of Lake Charles Requests Nominations for Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award 

Mar. 2, 2017 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc., is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award. Since 1994, the Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award has been given to honor an individual’s or organization’s exceptional and sustained contributions through voluntarism. This award, established by Della K. Thielen’s family and administered through the Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc., embodies Mrs. Thielen’s own outstanding commitment to voluntarism.

The Junior League of Lake Charles Gets Revved-Up for Inaugural Touch A Truck Event

Feb. 15, 2017 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. is excited to announce a new fundraising event, Touch A Truck.  Touch A Truck grants children of all ages the opportunity to explore, climb and touch trucks, emergency response vehicles and heavy machinery, and meet the people who build, protect and serve our community in Calcasieu Parish. Touch A Truck will showcase local agencies’ vehicles from Hunt Brothers® Pizza, Henderson Implement & Marine, the Lake Charles Police Department, Chennault International Airport Authority, Calcasieu Parish Public Library, Louisiana CAT, Hurricane Off Road, SITI Construction and SWLA Tours, Inc. The event will be held at Chennault International Airport on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

2016:

The Junior League of Lake Charles Sponsors Santa’s Market

Nov. 29, 2016 – On Dec. 8, 2016, the Junior League of Lake Charles will sponsor Santa’s Market, a holiday event celebrating young entrepreneurism in the Southwest Louisiana area. Presented by the Calcasieu School Parish School Board’s Elementary Gifted Program, more than 100 gifted 4th and 5th grade students representing over 20 local schools will present a night of entrepreneurial skills, showcasing hundreds of creative homemade products designed by students themselves.  The event will be held in the Buccaneer Room at the Lake Charles Civic Center from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Junior of Lake Charles Presents 24th Annual Mistletoe & Moss Holiday Market

Sept. 28, 2016 – The Junior League of Lake Charles will host its 24th annual Mistletoe and Moss Holiday Market from Nov. 17-19, 2016 at the Lake Charles Civic Center. The market serves as the League’s largest fundraiser and supports the organization’s many community impact initiatives and programs including: Literacy, Healthy Families and Leadership Development. Since its inception in 1993, Mistletoe and Moss and raised more than $1,000,000 to support the League’s mission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community.

The Junior League of Lake Charles Launches 2016-2017 “Read to Your Doll” Literacy Development Program

Aug. 17, 2016 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. has extended its partnership with the Calcasieu Parish Public Library system with the 2016-2017 literacy development program, “Read to Your Doll.”  Started by the JLLC in April 2016, Read to Your Doll is a monthly program hosted by the League’s Literacy Committee at nearly every branch of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library system.

Howard Foreman Receives the Junior League of Lake Charles’ 2016 Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism

Jul. 12, 2016 – The Junior League of Lake Charles, Inc. today announced that Howard Foreman is the proud 2016 recipient of the Della Krause Thielen Voluntarism Award.  Established in 1992 by Thielen’s family to honor her memory and loving work as a dedicated volunteer in the Lake Charles community, the award is presented each year to a person, project or organization that exemplifies a true, impactful commitment to voluntarism.
