Junior League of Lake Charles participated on November 7th, 2019 at all participating schools!
Read for the Record® is a global movement that was launched over a decade ago to address the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child. It is the world’s largest shared reading experience and the Junior League of Lake Charles is proud to continue its participation through the Literacy Committee. Junior League volunteers read a book chosen by Jumpstart to students across Calcasieu Parish every November. This year we read Thank You, Omu! which tells the story of a generous elderly woman who makes a fantastic pot of thick red stew. The scent from her stew travels all throughout her neighborhood and brings all of her community members over to her home for a taste. By the end, she shares a lovely feast with her neighbors where everyone contributes to the meal..
