Read for the Record® is a global movement that was launched over a decade ago to address the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child. It is the world’s largest shared reading experience and the Junior League of Lake Charles is proud to continue its participation through the Literacy Committee. Junior League volunteers read a book chosen by Jumpstart to students across Calcasieu Parish every October. 2017 was a record breaking year for us with the book Quackers by Liz Wong – a charming story about a kitten who grows up believing he is a duck, until he meets another kitten! This delightful book about standing out, fitting in, and how friends can come in all shapes and sizes was heard by 3,355 Calcasieu Parish students thanks to League volunteers.
