2017-2018 Provisional Project
Our provisional class is hard at work preparing their project! They are planning to have two impactful projects.
The group chose to collaborate with Partnership for a Healthier Southwest Louisiana to help implement an educational community garden at F.K. White Middle School, and with the Happy Hour Rotary Club of Lake Charles to construct a community Blessing Box.
According to John O’Donnell with Partnership for a Healthier SWLA, the educational community garden will be a greenhouse-based garden on the school’s campus that will also double as an outdoor classroom. The produce grown in the garden will be used in the school’s cafeteria. During the summer months, produce grown in the garden will go toward students who live in food-deprived homes.
The Blessing Boxes are little pantries that will be set up around the city and stocked with basic necessities for those in need, such as socks, deodorant, canned goods, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. One currently resides on Episcopal Day School’s campus.
The Provisional Class has a $1000 budget initially, but plans to do some fundraising and supply drives in hopes to potentially construct two Blessing Boxes. They are currently scouting locations and are in the planning phase, but the projects will be completed by the end of April.
Keep an eye out for more information and updates as the project develops.
